US F1 Team names former BMW executive Carl Flesher Director of Communications
Charlotte, N.C. (June 11, 2009) – US F1 Team, which has plans to become the first American-based Formula One team in more than 40 years, announced today it has named former BMW marketing executive Carl Flesher its director of communications.
Flesher, whose 30-plus year career was highlighted by serving as BMW’s vice president of marketing for its sales division and vice president of communications for its South Carolina manufacturing facility, will lead US F1 Team’s PR and communications department. Drawing on Flesher’s rich automotive and communications experience at The Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research (CU-ICAR) and the South Carolina Commerce Department, US F1 will have a pro-active PR strategy that will help deliver return on investment for the team’s sponsors and partners while also servicing worldwide media outlets and their daily demands.
“The addition of Carl to the US F1 executive team is vital and will help guide us in everything we do from structure of the company to developing and managing our brand,” said US F1 Team Principal Ken Anderson. “Carl has a host of wonderful experience in the car business and we will look to him to lead our push to be a fan-friendly and media-driven organization.”
Flesher joins the team effective immediately.
“I have known Ken for a long time and have a ton of admiration for what he’s done in his motorsports career and what he’s going to do moving forward with US F1,” said Flesher. “We’ve worked on this business plan for several years now and it’s an honor to officially join the team in Charlotte. We have a lot of work left to do but I’m excited about the possibility of taking America to the world stage of Formula One.”
